Dr. Pothana Boyina Guru Vishnu, M.V.Sc., Ph.D., (Assistant Professor Animal Genetics & Breeding)
has been working as an Assistant Professor at Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU),
Andhra Pradesh, India. He obtained his B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree from SVVU in 2009, M.V.Sc. in Animal
Genetics and Breeding in 2011, and Ph.D. in Animal Genetics from ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research
Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, in 2016. He has over 13 years of teaching, research, and academic
administrative experience, serving at the College of Veterinary Science, Proddatur, Animal Husbandry
Polytechnic, and Sheep & Goat Research Station, Banavasi.
His Master's research focused on cytogenetic studies in domestic pigs, while his doctoral research
involved molecular characterization and in vitro silencing of the ACTRIIB gene in chicken using RNA
interference techniques. His research interests include animal genetics, livestock genomics,
molecular biology, bioinformatics, quantitative genetics, cytogenetics, epigenetics, and indigenous
livestock conservation. He has published more than 35 research papers in reputed national and
international peer-reviewed journals and has contributed several nucleotide sequences to the NCBI
GenBank database.
He received the prestigious INSPIRE Fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology,
Government of India, for pursuing his Ph.D. Dr. Guru Vishnu has undergone specialized training in
statistical genetics, livestock genomics, transcriptomics, meta-analysis, experimental data analysis,
and laparoscopic artificial insemination and embryo transfer in sheep at premier institutes such as
IASRI, CSWRI, NIAB, and NAARM. He has also completed several international online courses in genetics,
bioinformatics, epigenetics, evolution, and data analysis from globally renowned universities. He is a
life member of multiple professional societies related to animal genetics, biodiversity conservation,
veterinary biotechnology, and poultry science.
