Buffalo Research Station was established at Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari District vide University Board Resolution No. 6197 during the year 1999 to take care of the research work to establish an elite herd of Murrah Buffaloes and to supply the elite Murrah germplasm to the needy farmers for breed improvement in that region.
Initially, a network project on Buffalo Improvement was started during the year 2001 and continued for 11 years. Later in addition to this genetic improvement of Godavari (Murrah) buffaloes was undertaken with reference to physiology and behavioral aspects and nutrition and feeding regimen.
Through project on superior germplasm and genetic improvement in buffaloes using open nucleus breeding system in collaboration with progressive buffalo farmers under RKVY project superior buffaloe germplasm, fodder slips were distributed to farmers and several training programmes were organized to enlighten the farmers on different managemental aspects.
