The Hon’ble Chief Minister had given assurance for establishment of livestock research
station at Banavasi, Kurnool (Dt) and accordingly, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University
had established a Sheep & Goat Research Station at Banavasi vide G.O.M.S. No.50
dated 25.10.2016 of the AHDDF (AH-II) Department. The Government of Andhra Pradesh
have transferred 276.45 acres (200.00+76.45 acres) of land from Animal Husbandry
Department, A.P., Hyderabad to Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati
for establishment of 1) Sheep & Goat Research Station and 2) Animal Husbandry Polytechnic
at Banavasi, Kurnool district vide G.O.M.S. No.24 dated 18.06.2016 of the AHDDF
(AH-II) Department. Consequently, the SVVU has taken initiatives to improve the
sheep and goat population under RKVY research project “Introduction of prolificacy
gene into Nellore sheep and development of Osmanabadi” at Sheep & Goat Research
Station, Banavasi.
