Brief history of the Research Station

The Instructional cum Research Aqua Farm was earlier known as the Fresh water fish seed farm. It was established by the Department of fisheries Andhra Pradesh in the year 1960 under the control of the State Institute Fisheries Technology – Kakinada. Later the farm was given on lease basis to the Central Institute of Fisheries Education – sub centre Kakinada. Later the Department of Fisheries had taken over 9.65 acres of farm from the CIFE – Kakinada in the year of 1992.

In the year of 20 14 Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University has taken over the farm (11 acres) from Department of Fisheries Andhra Pradesh. The lRAF farm kept under administrative control of Principal Scientist and Head, Fisheries Research Station, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University – Kakinada. The Fresh water fish seed farm was renamed as Instructional cum Research Aqua Farm – Balabhadrapuram in October 2014.
