History of the College
The NTR College of Veterinary Science was established in the year 1997-98 vide G. O. Ms. No. 33 Agri & Co-op (Agri.III) Department, dated 03-03-1998 at Gannavaram, Krishna Dt. and the college started functioning from 18-03-1998 offering BVSc & AH degree. Though initially established by Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, presently it is a constituent college of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati since the inception of the university i.e. 01-04-2006. The college includes facilities and faculty strength as per the standards of Veterinary Council of India. The college started offering M. V. Sc. programme from the academic year 2008-09 and Ph. D. programme from the year 2013-14. At present, the intake of undergraduate students is 75, including 15% students nominated by the Veterinary Council of India based on NEET ranking. The intake of Postgraduate and Ph.D. students will be determined by the Academic Council of SVVU every year.
The college organizes regular training to the field veterinarians and interacts with farmers to design its research directives. Also supplies superior germplasm to the farmers under various RKVY schemes as per the mandate. The Veterinary Clinical Complex serves as referral hospital in the region of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and possesses state-of-art facilities for treating both livestock and companion animals.
