The Department of Veterinary Medicine was started on 1-9-1999. The Department has sanctioned post of one Professor, two Associate professors, and three Assistant professors. The PG programme was started during the year 2009-10. So far 14 M.V.Sc students have obtained the degree and 13 M.V.Sc students are on rolls. The Ph.D. programme was started during 2014-15 and four Ph.D. students are on rolls. The Department has organized the following National Seminars and National Workshops along with State level training programmes for faculty and field veterinarians under Continuous Veterinary Education programme.

The department is a referral centre for clinical and special medical cases from
all corners of the state. The Department staff has published around 30 International
and 165 National articles and they also participated in national conferences and
workshops. The Department is now working in upstream areas like Small Animal Cardiology,
Nephrology, Dermatology, Hepatobiliary diseases, and large animal Cardiopulmonary
Medicine. Recently the department was sanctioned DST Project entitled “Study on
diagnosis and prognosis of Bacterial respiratory disease in Buffalo calves” with
an amount of 27 lakhs. The Department has facilities like Digital Ultrasound Color
Doppler system, Electrocardiography, Ophthalmoscope, Rigid Bronchoscope , Laryngoscope,
Otoscope, Vital signs monitor and well established Clinical medicine and Preventive
medicine laboratory.
