Livestock Research Station, Siddarampuram

Livestock Research Station, Siddarampuram, was started in the year 2009 under Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati vide G.O, Ms.No: 45 Animal Husbandry Department and Fisheries (AH-H) Department, Dated: 12.06.2008 and as per the SVVU act No: 18 of 2005 with an objective to produce Nellore Brown Rams and to distribute among the breeders for up gradation of existing sheep in that region. Rams produced by selective breeding were distributed to the needy farmers for improvement of field flocks along with training to the farmers on scientific methods of sheep rearing.

Under farmer Centric Genetic Improvement Programme in Sheep” for three years this station has carried out genetic improvement using elite farmers flocks as multiplication centers in order to produce a large number of superior Ram lambs for distribution among farmers.

Under this about more than 200 ram lambs were distributed to farmers and trained nearly 400 farmers.

Under National Agricultural Innovative Programme Project on A value chain for clean meat production from sheep during the year, 2011-12 supplied concentrate creep feed at the rate of 1% lamb live body weight, for every fifteen days in order to get clean meat production.
