Animal Husbandry Polytechnic, Rapur was established during September 2007, under the esteemed Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University at Bojjanapalle, Rapur mandal, Nellore district.

This college has Administrative Building, separate class rooms for first and second years, Laboratory, Museum, Library, Staff quarters, Play Ground in additional to separate Boys and Girls hostel in an area of 29.56 acres.

Newly constructed farms are available separately for Cattle, sheep, goats and poultry for demonstration of farm activities to students.

The first six batches of students were admitted at Rapur during 2007 – 2014 and the college was shifted from Rapur to a 30 acre nearby land during April, 2014. The first principal of the college was Dr. K. Sarjan Rao and the present principal of the college is Dr. P. Venkateswara Rao.

Dr. P. Venkateswara Rao

Dr.P.Venkateswara Rao joined as Principal i/c, AHP, Rapur on 14th February 2018. He completed his BVSc & AH from RAGACOVAS, Pondicherry University in 2007 and completed MVSc in 2009 as ICAR candidate in the Dept. of Veterinary Parasitology, Madras Veterinary College, TANUVAS, Chennai. He was awarded Dr. Ramanujachari Memorial award (Gold medal) as the best outgoing MVSc student in Veterinary Parasitology. He joined as Teaching Assistant at CVSc, Korutla, Karimnagar Dt. Telangana in the Dept. of Veterinary Parasitology and has contributed significantly in establishing the department and Parasitology laboratories of the new college. He obtained NET qualification from ICAR-ASRB in Para-clinical Veterinary Sciences in 2011. He joined as Assistant Professor Parasitology at CVSc, Korutla in 2012 and continued there till 2015. He was posted at CVSc, Tirupati as Assistant Professor Dept. of Veterinary Parasitology in 2015. At present he is posted at State Level Diagnostic Laboratory as Assistant Professor Parasitology also holding the additional charge of Principal Incharge, AH Polytechnic Rapur. He has also contributed in strengthening the laboratory of AHP Rapur. He has 6 publications in reputed journals. He is peer reviewer in many national and international journals. He is life member is professional associations like IAAVP, AAHP etc. He has undergone technical trainings in reputed national and international institutions like EMBL, Germany and CDC, Atlanta, USA.

Outreach and Services

Student are given seminars by the course teachers and are evaluated for assignments regularly. The above activity encourages students to better understand their topic and also to develop their communication skills to interact with farmers in the field. Weekly NSS programs are conducted involving students to maintain a clean and green campus. In addition students are involved in seasonal vaccination programmes organized by AH Department for important livestock diseases like FMD, Blue tongue disease, HS, ET etc. During these camps the students also involve in extension activities such as explaining the farmers and also distribution of pamphlets regarding good animal husbandry practices like prevention of mastitis, deworming schedule, poultry farming, rabbit farming, pig farming, balanced ration formulation etc. A mandatory Special NSS program is conducted for every batch for one week prior to their internship programme. During their internship the students receive hands on clinical training in Veterinary dispensaries, Veterinary polyclinics and animal farms. In addition students are trained for extracurricular activities including sports and games like cricket, volleyball in the college ground for maintaining physical fitness. Also special days like yoga day are celebrated with yoga sessions for the wellness of staff and students.
