History of the Institution

The Government of Andhra Pradesh have considered the request and foundation stone for the building was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 28.05.2005 on the occasion of “Rythu Sadassu” in the presence of Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor and other officials of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University and the West Godavari District Administration. The Animal Husbandry Polytechnic was established at Venkataramannagudem by Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University vide Memo.No.1746/Acad.I/A2/2005, Dt. 07.10.2005. Later 21 students were admitted to the 1st year diploma programme as per University Memo No.34715/Acad.I/A1/2005, Dated 08.10.2005 and classes were started on 15.10.2005. Subsequently the University has accorded permission vide Memo. No. 1384/VS/(A2)/2006, Dt. 30. 6. 2006 to construct the Veterinary Polytechnic building in the 1st block of the farm with the funds provided by the District Collector, West Godavari District, Eluru with an estimated cost of Rs. 50.00 lakhs

Academic activities have been started with two Scientists drawn from the Buffalo Research Station and three Teaching Assistants on contract basis in one of the vacant staff quarters and store room. The girl students were accommodated in the vacant staff quarters for their stay and boarding facility was arranged for both boys and girls. Subsequently separate hostels were constructed for girls and boys by the University. As the students are required to undergo hands-on training in the farms of Buffalo Research Station, it is convenient for the students to stay on the campus in the hostels.

The duration of the diploma course is two years consisting of two semesters per year. During the second semester of second year, i.e., in the forth semester the students will be deputed to veterinary hospitals, live-stock and poultry farms and dairy units to undergo extensive training in various animal husbandry activities under the Work Experience Programme.

During the 6 months work Experience programme students are also participating in NSS special camps at different villages to plantation, cleaning, treatment and inseminate the animals as per curriculum.
