The College of Dairy Technology is actively progressing in research in the interest and contributing in the following fields:

  • Research has been conducted on “Development of equipments for chilling milk using non-conventional energy sources” during the year 2008-12.
  • Research has been conducted on “Development of gas operated cold storage for preservation of animal & fish products” during the year 2008-12
  • Research has been conducted on “Improvement of technology for maintaining cold chain by using solar energy at rural milk collection center” during the year 2014-16.
  • The college expert faculty team has developed e-courses for the B.Tech (Dairy Technology) degree programme during the year 2009-12 and provided availability for the students
  • Research has been conducted on “Milk Value Chain” during the year 2009-12.
  • Research has been conducted on “Development of Bio-fortified functional dairy products using probiotic cultures” during the year 2002-2004 and developed probiotic yoghurt.
  • Research has been conducted on “Development of lactic and probiotic cultures in sachets to prepare dahi at the household level for improving the health and well being of rural population” during the year 2014-16.

College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati is continuing to do pioneering research work in frontier areas of dairy processing and quality control.Research projects handled by the faculty are:

  1. An ad-hoc ICAR research scheme on “Rapid tests for the detection of residual thiocyanate in the milk stored under LP system” (PI: Dr. Shiv Kumar)
  2. Research project entitled: Studies on the changes in ghee during storage under high ambient temperatures”, funded by TTD (PI : Dr. J.L. Bhanumurthy)
  3. NATP project on “Development of Bio-fortified functional dairy products using probiotic cultures” funded by ICAR, New Delhi (PI: Dr. V. Padmanabha Reddy)
  4. NAIP (Comp-1) project on “Development of e-Courses for B. Tech (Dairy Technology) degree Programme” sanctioned by ICAR, New Delhi (CC PI: Dr. V. Padmanabha Reddy).

It is a matter of pride that College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati took the lead by submitting a concept note in creation of e-content for B. Tech (Dairy Technology) degree for all the dairy educational institutes in India. A concept note was approved by ICAR and sanctioned NAIP Project on development of e-courses for B. Tech (Dairy Technology) degree programme and made College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati as cooperating center in a consortium headed by National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. As of now, CDs containing e-course content, figures, drawings and animations for 49 courses of B.Tech (DT) degree programme are made available for offline delivery to all the Dairy Science Colleges across the country. The e-course content made available online on web domain www.elearningdt.org.in.

Academic Awards and Merit Scholarships:

  1. ANGRAU-Dairy Technology Graduates Gold medal for highest OGPA at College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati instituted by the ANGRAU-Dairy Technology Graduates Association from 2004
  2. Dr. BV Raghavendra Rao Merit Scholarship to the best student of B Tech (Dairying) at the end of 6th Semester at College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati instituted by Mr. Harshavardhan Thippareddi and Mr. V. Kesava Rao from 2004 for the admitted batch of 2000-01.
  3. Dr. (Mrs) Mandadi Anuradha Memorial Gold medal for the best girl student with highest OGPA at College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati instituted by Dr. M. Parthasarathy, Rtd. Professor of SV Veterinary University from 2012 for the admitted batch of 2008-09

Earn While You Learn Dairy Products Project: In order to inculcate entrepreneurial skills in the students, Earn-while-you-Learn dairy products Project was started on 17th October 1996 in the Dairy Technology division. The University has provided a revolving fund of Rs. 10,000/- for meeting the expenses of the raw material. Around 120 students have been benefited by this scheme till the end of last academic year.

Income generation activity: With aim of generating internal revenue and optimum utilization of infrastructure facilities and manpower available at the institute, the Division of Dairy Technology has initiated income generation activity by the way of production and sale of various milk products with Rs 30,000 as revolving fund sanctioned by the University on 30th August 2003. During the last one decade of its operation a round Rs 7.77 lakhs of income has been generated under this scheme for the period ending 28.02.2013.

Linkages: Workshops are organized and the faculty members give free professional advice to prospective entrepreneurs and rural households in general and women in particular. The institute has also established international linkages with the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA. A two days training programme was conducted for the students from UNL, USA in the preparation of traditional dairy products. So far, one on-campus workshop and two off Campus workshops at Vizag Dairy and at Dairy Science College, Bangalore were conducted on HACCP Application in Food Safety in collaboration with Dept. of Food Science and Technology, University of Nebraska, USA.

Hostels: To make the students feel comfortable and feel like home away from home, a separate DT Boys hostel was inaugurated on12th September 1991. With increasing admissions, for meeting the increasing demand, first floor for the existing DT boys hostel along with renovation of kitchen was completed during the year 2012. Presently the mess is being managed by the hostel student committee, but is supported by the manpower arranged by the University. The girl students are accommodated in a modern University Hostel

Extracurricular activities: To eliminate the boredom and monotony involved in study, students are encouraged to participate in various extra curricular activities like Sports and Games, Literary and Cultural events, NSS and NCC. Several students have participated in Inter-College and Inter-University levels events and won accolades for the College & University at various fronts. A few noteworthy mentions about the students’ achievements are: The students of this college bagged the overall championship in SVVU Inter Collegiate Literary and Cultural events during the year 2011. Mr. Ravinder Singh Kanger of this institute from 2(A) R&V Regt, SVVU has earned two bronze medals each in show jumping and tent pegging competitions in Republic Day Camp-2012 at New Delhi in January, 2012 which is first of its kind for the campus. Recently, Mr. K. Chakradhar had secured 1st position in extempore speech (English) and 2nd position in Debate (English) in All India Agricultural Universities Youth Festival (AGRI UNIFEST-2013).
