Department of Animal Nutrition at College of Veterinary Science, Proddatur started functioning since 2008 to impart education to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. program during the 1st and 2nd of their study as per VCI norms.
Due to the revision of VCI regulations in the year 2016 (MSVE 2016), the Animal Nutrition course which is divided into four units is offered during the 2nd professional year of the B.V.Sc. & A.H. program. The four units of the Animal Nutrition course include Principles of Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology (Unit 1), Applied Ruminant Nutrition I (Unit 1), Applied Ruminant Nutrition (Unit 2) and Applied Non- Ruminant Nutrition.
The Department started offering postgraduate courses of Animal Nutrition from 2016 onwards as minor courses to the post graduate students of Livestock Production and Management department. The department is currently operating a research project on “Development of Distillers Dried Grain with Solubles (DDGS). Based Feeding System Replacing Conventional Protein Supplement in Straw Based Diet for Economical Fattening of Ram Lambs’ funded by the University. The staff of the department attended more than 10 capacity building programs organized in the past 2 years for the benefit of farmers by the A.H. Department, ATMA programs of Kurnool and Anantapur districts and also by the College of Veterinary Science, Proddatur.
