Livestock Production Management

About

The Department Livestock Production Management started functioning since the inception of the college in 2008. The department has established a breed museum with good photo laminations, three dimensional models of important breeds and housing models of various species of livestock including cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goat, swine, rabbit and horses. The department staff prepared the manuals for the courses LPM 122, LPM 121 and LPM 222 under old VCI curriculum 2009 also prepared manuals for Units 7 and 8 Laboratory, Rabbit and Pet animal Production Management and Swine and Equine Production Management, under new VCI 2016 Curriculum.

Extension activities:

The faculty of the department regularly participating in the “Animal Husbandry Day “ organized by the state government at there district ( Kadapa, Ananthapur, Karnool) on Ist Saturday of every month.

The faculty also participating in All India Radio Programme (Live- in) entitled.” Pashu Vigyanam”. The topics delivered include Calf management, Management practices of feeding, summer management of livestock, selection of dairy animals, methods to improve fat percentage in milk, clean milk production and fodder crops suitable for kharif season.

The department is also actively involved in giving the training programmes to the farmers on azolla cultivation, cultivation of APBN -1 perennial fodder and the effect of feeding of groundnut haulm based complete feed to lactating buffaloes, Hydropinics.

The faculty is actively involved in writing popular articles on improved animal husbandry practices in local newspapers.

The staff of department are actively involved in N.S.S. Camps.

Training Programmes

Three days Training programme conducted for field veterinarians.

Student field trips:

Students are regularly taken to the ILFC, C.V.Sc, Proddatur during practical classes to gain practical skills. They are also taken to the Livestock farms in and around kadapa district, Livestock Research station, Mahanadi, and IGCARL Campus and Dodla Dairy Farm at Pulivendula, College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati, AICRP, Tirupati and SV Dairy Farm Tirupati, for exposure visits and hands on experience.

NSS activities done by the LPM Dept staff
  • Survey conducted by the students in adopted village to know the resources of the village basing on this  we identified the lacunaes in that village and according to that planned for the future activities to be done
  • Training Programmes conducted for the awareness creation  in farmers on the following topics
  • How to select  high yielding animals
  • fodder cultivation for increasing the milk yield in animals.
  • Motivation of students towards  blood donation and with the help of  red cross society , Kadapa collected 54  blood units by involving NSS volunteers
  • swachhta pakhwada programme conducted from 1.8.17 to 15.8.17  
  • By  involving  NSS volunteers cleaned  Departments
  • Painting competition conducted on the theme of Swachhta  
  • Slogan writing  competition conducted on the theme of swachhta
  • Plantation of fruit trees 400 nos in the adopted village Sunnapurallapalle village
  • Created awareness programme  on swachhta at school of Sunnapurallapalle village
  • Plantation of fruit trees 100 nos in the college premises as well as in Boys and Girls   hostel
