The Library System of SVVU is consists of One University Library at main campus, Tirupati and Four College Libraries. The University Library is serving to the information needs of College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati and College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati. The main motto of the libraries is to cater to the library and information needs of Faculty, Students as well as Research and Extension Personnel.

Objectives
  • The primary objective is to support the educational, research and Extension programs of the SVVU  by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and the anticipated educational and research functions of the university.
  • To impart information services to all users of SVVU Libraries.
Membership

Students and Faculty members of various colleges of SVVU can be enrolled as regular members in the respective University/College libraries. Researchers, Teachers, Students and Planners, and all information seekers outside the SVVU are permitted for reference by the respective authorities on temporary basis, only if necessary Identification Letter / Document is produced. Regular members are provided with a Bar-coded Photo Identity Card and it should be carried with them while entering the Library.

The library offers services such as Reference Services, Referral Services, User Guidance Services, Circulation Services including Inter-Library Loan and Document Delivery Service, display of recent additions of periodicals, books and theses, Bibliographic Service, Photocopy Service, Literature search, Internet Browsing, CD-ROM Search, Consultancy Service, User Education, etc.

    In addition to its own collections, the SVVULIS has access to Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA), an online journal consortium funded under NAIP of ICAR.     E-journal collection on Veterinary & Animal Sciences (Total 31 journals) of Wiley Online Library are also accessible through CeRA.

  • CAB e-books :

    SVVU has subscribed E-book collection of CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International). Faculty and students can access e-Books and more over the same book can refer by different people at a time and they can keep the copy of the books as their own by downloading the same.

  • ScienceDirect.com:

    Through CeRA 1174 e-Books have been subscribed by ICAR and access has been provided to all SAUs. Staff and students can access full text and download all or selected chapters of e-books.

  • SVVU e-Book collection :

    SVVU has subscribed nearly 200 e-books from Elsevier and CRC publishers and access has been provided to faculty and students through http://svvueresources.remotexs.in/

www.indiastat.com is a gateway to comprehensive and authentic socio-economic statistical data about India and its states. Researchers, students, Scientists and faculties can easily access the data covering all major parameters for research study, review and reference purpose. ICAR has subscribed indiastat.com through CeRA consortium and access has been provided to all SAUs.

KrishiKosh : An Institutional Repository of ICAR

The SVVU has uploaded so far 1740 theses to Krishikosh repository. All soft copies of theses available are uploaded and hard copies of theses are also converted in to digital format and uploading.

Remote Access to E-Resources

The SVVU Library system has implemented RemoteXs.in middleware software to provide remote access to web-based licensed resources offered by the SVVU and through CeRA to all its faculty and students in a single plat form through user ID and Password.

Digital Library

The digital library infrastructure facilities viz., Servers, Computers with latest Configuration, Internet facility, etc. are fully strengthened in all libraries of SVVU to access and download e-Resources.

Web-based Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)

The Libraries of SVVU are completely computerised and database of Books, Journals, Theses, Reports and Reference sources have been developed and it is made available through ‘OPAC'(Online Public Access Catalogue) @ http://svvu.ideal.egranth.ac.in/. Library user’s database also developed and circulation of books and other resources are being done through Bar-coded ID cards.

RFID Technology

RFID Technology of Document Identification and Library Security System have been implemented for the library functions and services, along with the following facilities at the University Library:

  • RFID Tags for protecting the documents
  • RFID Reader for Circulation transactions
  • RFID Antenna Alarm Gate.
Competitive Examination Collection

A good collection of competitive examination books for students appearing for various ompetitive examinations for the better placement position and higher studies are acquired. This collection consists of useful material which is very much required for the aspirants of ICAR Examinations, ASRB, ICAR-JRF/NET, UPSC, APPSC, GMAT, TOEFL and all Bank exams etc.

Book Bank Scheme

The SVVU libraries are providing important books under special book bank scheme for the benefit of the students. Multiple Copies of Text Books collection have been built up by procuring good number of titles.

Electronic Surveillance (CCTV)

All the Libraries of SVVU have installed CCTVs for effective monitoring of every section, movement of the users to protect the Library Material from pilferage, misuse and also for security reasons.

Departmental Libraries

Departmental Libraries are being maintained in each department for day to day reference of important text books by faculty and P.G students of the respective departments. Old editions are being replaced with new editions from time to time.

University Library

About Central Library

The libraries of S.V Agricultural College and College of Veterinary Science Tirupati were merged together on 11-08-1982 and named as ANGRAU Regional Library which is located in between S.V. Agricultural College and College of Veterinary Science. Tirupati campus having 4 storied independent building which was funded by ICAR to the tune of RS 15 Lakhs and was inaugurated on 26-02-1982 by Vice Chancellor. APAU after announcing the Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, the Central Library was separated form ANGRAU Regional Library Dr.N Dhanalakshmi Associated Professor assumed charge from 26-03-2007. The same library was shifted to new library building which is located at college of Veterinary Science premises near canteen inaugurated by Honourable Chief Minister Sri K Rosaiah garu on 31-01-2010. The Library is under the administrative control of the Associate Dean college of Veterinary Science, Titupati.

Central Library occupies a place of pride in cvsc and is an essential component of the college outstanding research and education mission. It is a most lively place on the campus providing a safe, comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning. The mission of the Central Library is to facilitate creation of new knowledge through acquisition, organization and dissemination of knowledge resources and providing for value added services.

Electronic Surveillance System :

Electronic surveillance system has been installed in the library to ensure proper safety and security of the valuable library collection. The system consisting of IR surveillance cameras and monitors help the library administration to track the movements of the library users.

Digitization :

The Library has started digitizing the Previous Question Papers and currently abstracts of over 100 theses had been digitized and full-text of theses and dissertations submitted after 2007 are available in digital format.

Web-Based Online Access Catalogue :

The resources of the library in terms of books, back volumes of the journals, M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. theses Veterinary sciences, have been catalogued and the web-based Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the library is available at our web site.

Policies And Procedures
  • Users should bring their ID cards while coming to the library.
  • Users should check the physical condition of a book while borrowing the same.
  • If the damaged book belongs to a set, then the user is responsible for the entire set.
  • During power/system failures, the circulation counter services will be suspended.
  • Immediately after the issue of a book, the user is required to take out the same from the library’s.
  • No book should be returned on the day of issue.
  • While leaving the library user should ensure that they carry only those books that are duly issued on their names, otherwise disciplinary action will be taken against them.
  • User must check the Accession Number of the book issued on his / her name with the printed borrower’s slip before leaving the circulation counter. No objection will be considered later.
  • Every user is requested to check the status of books outstanding against his/her name soon after a transaction at the counter. Discrepancy, if any, should be brought to the notice of the counter person immediately. Any complaint thereafter is not likely to be entertained. When there is an emergent demand for a borrowed book, the same must be returned within seven days to the library.
  • Users are responsible for complying with the copyright act while photocopying library document.
  • An outgoing member should return the library cards and all the documents outstanding against his/her name along with his outstanding delay fine if any.
  • If any member is found misusing /mutilating /stealing/ cutting pages from a book, disciplinary action will be initiated against him/her, besides withdrawing the library facilities.
  • Improper use of library facilities by a member will lead to the suspension of termination of his/her membership.
  • Use of mobile phone is strictly prohibited inside library premises. If found, the membership as well as use of library facilities will be suspended.
Circulation
Circulation Section :

Circulation section is the gateway between users and documents so it plays a major role to any Library and Information System. SVVU Library Circulation Section provides the benefits of issues, renewal, and return of books using TLS Software. Apart from this basic task many other jobs like membership registration, issuing no-due certificate, overdue fine collection, book reservation, various e-mail alert generation, etc. and all kind of queries by the users are being performed by this section.

Central Library Membership :

All the SVVU of the Tirupati students and faculty are eligible for library membership. Central Library registration form is available at library.

Student Discipline And Conduct :

Students registered in any of the Libraries under the control of the University are expected to conduct themselves in a disciplined way in the library, as per the S.V.V. University regulations governing student discipline and conduct. Penalties may be imposed on any student for any act of following indiscipline or misconduct with regard to Library Books, Journals, Magazines:

  • Theft of whole or part of Books, Journals, Magazines from any of the Libraries of the University.
  • Tearing papers, photos etc., from Books, Journals, Magazines etc;
  • Defacing of Books, Journals, Magazines etc;
  • Writing with pen/ pencil in the Books, Journals, Magazines etc;
  • Misuse of Internet facility;
Book Bank
  • Central Library maintains a Book Bank for all students
  • To help students belonging to economically and socially weaker sections of the society. Sc/St Students can borrow up to 4 books from Sc/St collection for a period of 28 days. BC students can borrow 1 book from B/c collection for period of 28days
Photocopying, Spiral & Lamination Services

Central Library offers photocopying, spiral & Lamination services to all its members, walk-in users and others. Only single copy of journal articles and book chapters are provided for private study and research purpose

User Awareness Programmes

The Central Library takes an active part in the orientation programme organized by the institute for the benefit of new students in the beginning of academic year. They are taken around the library to familiarize them with various resources and services available for them. Training sessions are also organized whenever a new product or service is introduced. Any user desiring to know more about library resources and service or to learn how to use a particular resource like OPAC, e-books, etc. should contact In-charge Librarian. SVVU E-resources portal is a one stop solution to provide a single window access to the digital & e-resources of SVVU. It provides integrated resource management, automated user management and monitored access to digital content. Information is available in the form of e-resources like E-Journals, E-Books, E-Databases, E-Courses etc. ICAR provides access through “Consortium for e-resources in Agriculture (CeRA)’ portal. Due to the lack of static IP facility at certain Colleges, Research Stations, Polytechnics, KVKs of SVVU, most of these e-resources are not accessible to the users. Scientists and Students. To overcome this problem remote login software called ‘Remotexs.in’ has been acquired and separate portal for SVVU has been developed. All the faculty and students of SVVU can access these E-resources by login through User Name and Password on http://svvueresources.remotexs.in portal, provided they have net connectivity.

NTR College of Veterinary Science, Gannavaram

With a view to cater to the library and information needs of Faculty, Students as well as Research and Extension Personnel, the library was established in the year 1998. The Library function under the overall supervision of the Associate Dean and managed by the Assistant Professor (Library & Information .Sc) under the guidance of Dean of Student Affairs, SVVU. The Library was developed systematically in terms of Collection and Infrastructure right from the beginning and now it is serving the faculty and students for their information needs and to keep abreast of latest knowledge in the areas of veterinary science and animal husbandry. Dr P.V.S.Kishore, Professor, Dr D.Srinivas Kumar, Professor and Dr. P.Ravikumar, Professor acted as Library in-charges earlier and significantly contributed for the strengthening of Library. Dr K.S.R.Vithal, Professor took over the charge as regular Librarian on 24-11-2008 and continuing till date. The College library is completely computerized and actively involved in creation and maintenance of SVVU E-resources (Remotexs.in), SVVU OPAC, uploading of all SVVU theses and publications in digital repository of KRISHIKOSH, and also as a nodal centre for Document Delivery Service of CeRA consortium etc.

Library Layout:

The Library is located in the ground floor of the main building of the college with a carpet area of 6000 sq ft. and seating capacity for about 60 readers. To the right side of the main entrance, Circulation counter, Xerox section , Internet room, Technical section, Old news paper & magazines room are located and on the left side Main stack area, Reference Section, Current Periodicals Section , Back volumes of journals and Reading hall are located.

The Library is open on working days from 09.00 A.M to 06.00 P.M and from 09.00 A.M to 01.00 P.M on holidays.

Book Bank

Multiple copies of basic text books are acquired for General Book Bank Scheme and two books are issued to each student for the entire semester from Book Bank Scheme in addition to books issued from General Book Collection.

SC/ST Book Bank

An SC/ST Book Bank Scheme has been established in the Library for the benefit of SC/ST students with the help of Social Welfare Department of A.P Govt.

Departmental Libraries

Electronic Survelience System

An Electronic surveillance system with CCTV network had been installed at College Library with 08 cameras and the backup facility of Digital Video Recorder (DVR). The display of cameras are being displayed on the screen of Desktop computer at a time with 08 slots which is placed at the counter section to monitor the movements of users and the same is being recorded in DVR also.

Reprographic & Scanning Facility

Two photocopiers are available in the library for Xerox purpose of Library users and two scanners are also available for the use of students and staff.

Computerisation

The Library has acquired the LIBSYS library software initially and user’s database & Bibliographic database (Catalogue) of books, Back Volumes and Current periodicals have been developed and later on data has been converted to KOHA software . The circulation system has been computerized and issue/return of books to staff and students are being done through PVC bar-coded identity-cum- library cards. Necessary equipments for automation of the Library viz., Servers, computers, barcode scanner and barcode label printer have been procured as per the requirement.

Web-Based Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)

The resources of the library in terms of books, back volumes of the journals, M.V.S.C and Ph.D theses and other reports are available through SVVU OPAC and on http://ideal.egranth.ac.in/ . Users can search the database by author, title, classification number, subject, Journal title, accession number to know whether a book/document is available in the Library or not. Further status of each book i.e available on shelf or issued, and if it is issued, to whom it has been issued, date of return etc. details are available.

Publication

The library is bringing out VET CON (Current Veterinary Contents), a quarterly current awareness bulletin which contains the copies of the contents pages of the journals being received at College Library, NTR college of Veterinary Science, Gannavaram during the corresponding period of the issue.

Book Exhibitions

Book Exhibitions are being organized regularly by the Library for the benefit of students, staff and researchers of the College. Prominent Publishers/Book Sellers are participating and displaying their latest editions of publications in the exhibition.

Brief Description of Library

The College Library supports the teaching and research programmes of the Institute and provides facilities for general reading and disseminates information according to the requirement of the users. C.V.Sc. Proddatur Library provided with a reading Hall in plinth area of 2806 Sq.Feet and a distinct Digital Library (Electronic Resource Center), 998 Sq.Feet; it has around 4,124 books, CD-ROMs.

Library Automation

The Library functions such as Acquisition, Circulation, Cataloguing and Serials control have been automated using integrated open source software “NewGenLib”. Barcode Technology has been implemented in the Library functions and services. At present, datatransformationfrom Library Automation to KOHA Library Management Software is under process. The objective of such data migration is to integrate Union Catalogue of SVVU Libraries in a single platform.

Library and other Learning Resources

A library is a basic need of every educational and research institute, which offers collection of sources of information and similar resources. Currently library has variety of reference and text books to meet the requirements of undergraduate students of Dairy Technology.

Books related to various competitive examinations viz. Central and state government jobs, GRE, TOFEL, IELTS, ICAR and other state agricultural universities entrance examination etc. are available in library. These books are helping the students in achieving success in various competitive examinations. Few journals, periodicals, general magazines and newspapers are also available in the library.

Library Space with list of holdings

Library of the college is combined with University library and covers area of 10,560 sq. ft. Cupboards, racks, bookcase and other items are also purchased from time to time to meet requirements. Photocopying machine is also available in the library.

Photocopying Facility

Facility is available to the students for photocopying of technical and informative documents for academic purpose at an affordable cost.

Library borrowing

About 110 students and 13 staff members are the users of the library. Books are borrowed by the readers for home reading.

  1. Monday to Saturday : 08:00 AM TO 06:30 PM
  2. 2nd Saturday : 08:00 AM TO 01:00 PM
  3. Sundays and Holidays : 08:00 AM TO 01:00 PM
Adoption of ICAR norms for the library

ICAR norms for library are adopted

Availability of computers and Access to Internet Services

Currently, 37 computers are present in which 20 computers are connected with internet facility are available at the library for the student and staff members. Furthermore student and faculty members are using computer and internet facility at computer lab for literature search as a required.

Library is fully automated with Management software TLSS (Total Library Software Systems) and Classification of all books with DDC (Dewey decimal classification). All books are bar-coded.
