Prof. Velugoti Padmanabha Reddy is a native of Pulivendla, Dr YSR Kadapa District, is a distinguished veterinarian, academician and a renowned dairy and food safety researcher with 35+ years of multidisciplinary professional experience. Throughout his education, teaching, research, administrative and advisory experience in India and abroad, Dr. Reddy strived to bring excellence, transparency and furtherance of standards in every field.

Education :

Prof. Velugoti Padmanabha Reddy has formal education in the form of Under graduation (BVSc) and Post-graduation (MVSc) from Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University; and Doctoral degree (Ph D) from Tamil Nadu University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. He later pursued Post-Doctoral research from University of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA..

Employment :

Prof. Velugoti Padmanabha Reddy started his career in the Faculty of Veterinary Science as Research Associate in 1984 and continued his service in Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati in various capacities as Assistant Professor (13½ Years), Associate Professor (08 Years), Professor (10Years), and Senior Professor (04Years). He has unblemished administrative credentials as Associate Dean (02 Years); and Dean of the Faculty of Dairy Science (~04 Years); and also briefly as Registrar (FAC), Comptroller (FAC), Controller of Examinations (FAC), University Librarian i/c. As Major and Minor advisor, he guided several MVSc, MTech (DT and DM) and PhD students in the disciplines of Dairy Production, Dairy Processing and Dairy Microbiology. Hehas published more than 45 research papers (11 International and 37 National) in peer reviewed journals with high NAAS ratings. Some of these research papers have been extensively referred and thus have high citation indices. He also authored a book chapter, 5 laboratory manuals and 3 monographs.

Research :

As Principal Investigator, Prof. Reddy successfully attracted external research funding of ~ INR 2 crores from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and fruitfully completed NATP Research Project titled “Development of Bio-fortified Functional Dairy Products using Probiotic Cultures” and Multi institutional NAIP-I Project on “Development of e-Courses for the B. Tech (Dairy Technology) Degree Programme” for online and offline e-Courses (49 courses) and NAIP-II Project on “A Milk Value Chain for the Unorganized Sector”.

Honours and Awards :

Prof. Velugoti Padmanabha Reddy is the recipient of ICAR Senior Research Fellowship and Post-Doctoral Fellowship (1 Year) from University of Nebraska, USA, apart from FAO sponsored AHRDP overseas research training grant for 3 months and NAIP overseas training grant for 1 month. He had the distinction of being awarded with Dr. Kurein’s Gold Medal in PhD, and Andhra Pradesh State University Meritorious Teachers’ Award by the Govt. of AP and Sri Nalakantapuram Sreerama Reddy Gold Medal for Best Veterinary Scientist. Other honours to his credit are Fellow of Indian Dairy Association; National Academy of Dairy Science (India); and Association of Public Health Veterinarians in addition to being member of several national scientific & professional societies.

Honourable Positions of Advisory :

Notably, served as Member of Board of Management of Karnataka Veterinary Animal & Fishery Sciences University, Bidar, Member of Research Advisory Committee for National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Member of Expert Panel on IIIrd party inspection of dairy plants registered under Milk and Milk Products Order-1992 under Export Inspection Agency-Chennai (EIC Scheme), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India; Also served as Member of Planning Board of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Member of Board of Studies for Food Sciences in TANUVAS, Member of Board of Studies for Dairy Technology in SV University & Osmania University, Academic council member of SV Veterinary University etc.
